Work with what you've got: Bike tube

Yoga can be practiced in many different ways. There is no need to go purchase expensive yoga props or equipment- Look around your space, get creative and work with whatever you have.

Here are 2 examples of easy ways you can deepen your yogic experience using an old bike tube.

Downward dog:
I supported myself in this pose on a doorknob and let the tension of the bike tube support my hips. With each inhale I increase the length in the spine and on each exhale I grow a little longer.














Head Hammock:
For this pose I loop the bike tube around the balls of my feet and under the occipital ridge (the very base of the skull where it meets the neck). The supported flexion of the neck creates space behind the cervical vertibrae and invites tension in the neck muscles to soften and release. The flexion of feet allows for a stretch through the entire back of the leg, opening the hamstrings, calf muscles and soleus. I focus on softening my lumbar vertibrae (the low-back part of the spine) and shoulders into the floor, causing a slight engagement in the abdominal muscles to gently and easily build strength in the core.
